“Johannesburg was the venue for our U.S. organisation’s inaugural leadership development conference, targeting high-level public health leaders from throughout Africa. Happily, we relied on the professional expertise of Sue de Waal and her colleagues at Successful Events to organise the meeting logistics, participants’ lodging and meals, and daily transport services to and from Sandton, as well as respond to an array of unanticipated and often challenging requests from the attendees. We couldn’t have done it without her expert organizational skills, personal familiarity with vendors and local conditions, and unflappable demeanor. I recommend her services highly and without reservation. The hotel in Sandton provided a welcome respite from the demands of the meeting and the bustle of the city; the staff were accommodating and receptive, and the location was convenient to shopping and services for the attendees. Transport services and staff were prompt, courteous, and helpful. Catered meals at the meeting venue and buffet breakfasts at the hotel were of the highest quality. The convenience of air travel into Johannesburg from other locales within Africa and beyond facilitated nearly 100% attendance at the meeting, and participants’ evaluations were uniformly positive, with the main negative comment being that their stay in Johannesburg was too brief. We extend our sincere thanks to Ms. de Waal, her colleagues, and the city of Johannesburg for their warm and gracious hospitality. We hope to return soon for a similarly successful event.”

Our group involves representatives from the majority of SADC countries. As this was our first meeting, South Africa was selected as the host country and the CTICC the venue.
In comparison to other regional locations, the decision was based on the following: The availability of world class convention and hotel facilities in Cape Town Committee members had personally previously attended conferences at the facility and were confident in the capacity of the venue to deliver on its obligations; and most fundamentally, the availability of a highly regarded local event organiser, in Successful Events, to manage the project.
The last point was critical to the decision. The OECD finds it particularly useful to use a local event organiser in regions where they have limited prior experience. Utilising local contacts and pre-existing business relationships facilitated such practical matters as reserving hotel rooms without having to pay deposits and so gave us flexibility in arranging the meeting that we would not have achieved if we had not used your services. We also found that the cost of using your services was at least partially offset by the fact that you were able to secure local rates for many services that were cheaper than the rates we were able to access from Paris.
